From the Editor

The construction industry has been reluctant to embrace change in the form of technological innovation, but we're starting to see attitudes changing. In this edition, we take a look at the state of technology adoption in construction, and hear from IKE fellow Scott McGibbon about the potential and challenges the digital transformation is bringing to the construction industry.

As artificial intelligence continues to disrupt business across all industries, we explore some of the practical considerations surrounding the integration of AI into business operations. We also ask what happens when AI becomes the innovator and hear from European patent attorney Richard Johnson how intellectual property legislation could apply to inventions made by AI systems without any human involvement.

Also in this edition, IKE CEO Professor Sa'ad Medhat discusses the importance of having growth mindsets in your organisation; IKE fellow Professor Colin Coulson-Thomas explains how we can speed up the adoption of innovative ideas in corporate operations, and Murphy's innovation coordinator Jack Selman shines a light on the work of innovation teams.

Plus, we find out how Alchemie Technology is setting out to transform manufacturing processes with its innovative digital materials science technologies, and look into the role of the Royal Air Force’s Rapid Capabilities Office in supporting innovation across the UK’s armed forces.

I hope you enjoy this edition of Brite Innovation Review.
